    1. Thank you so much for this post! It sounds pathetic, but I really need this kind of help. I seemed to have missed out on the WP revolution, so the extent that my nephew is teaching me how to do it!

    2. Strictly my opinion, but use Windows Live Writer and create your blog posts off-line. Doing so lets you create, let it simmer for a bit, and then publish without the hassle of signing into you blog.

I also think the WSIWYG interface with Live Write also gives you a more realistic view of what your post is going to look like than the editor in WP does.

    3. Hi War Gold. We are all at different knowledge levels and still learning as we go. Some learn best by watching videos, whilst others might prefer a classroom environment. Me, I’m a book guy myself and a tinkerer. I find that I learn best with a hands-on approach. Hmm… now lets see what that link does… COOL!

    4. Lee, I admit that Live Writer is slick, but it also adds extraneous code that I don’t like. It’s also a resource pig and leaks memory, requiring gobs of RAM just to keep it running. Leave it open long enough and it will grind your computer to a halt.

As for me, I enjoy using the WP post editor and find it satisfies my needs. I just keep a tab open in my browser at all times and the preview link works great. I also have a plethora of plugins that have enhanced it’s usefulness greatly.

Like I said earlier, software is a personal preference and what works for one person doesn’t for another. That doesn’t mean that one is necessarily better than the other. Whatever works for you is what is important.

    5. Lee turned me onto Windows Live Writer and it really saved me. I had such trouble formatting with the WP editor. Someone else suggested using TinyMCE Advanced, and I did try it, but we soon parted ways. WLW is exactly what I needed. I do not notice a drain on system resources. Very satisfied with it. And you’re right, Bloke. Everyone needs to find what works best for them. And thanks to Lee, I found it.

    6. Kathy, you should check out my section “blog tools” or use the search bar and you will find more articles that I’ve written about blog editors.

WLW used to be my preferred choice but now that I’m using plugins that modify the usefulness of the WP post editor it’s better for me to use it. After I write my article on favourite plugins that I’m using you might also reconsider using WLW like I did.

Different strokes for different folks :)

    7. Hey Bloke, I’ve been having twouble posting YouTube videos to my blog. Every-time I save the post, wordpress automatically breaks the object and param tags !

I recently found a sweet youtube plugin at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-youtube/

I also have “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” unchecked !

Is there a way that I can have uber-control on all the coding ?

    8. Try this Jaffer. A typical YouTube enbedded code will look something like this:

      < object width="425" height="355"> < /param> < /param>< embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cVHhjWMpC1g&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355" >< /embed>< /object>

      Remove everything except for:

      http: //www.youtube.com/v/cVHhjWMpC1g&

And make a custom field for it. That’s what I do.

    9. Thanks Bloke ! It works !
