Windows Vista (Cheat) Sheet

If you’re thinking of upgrading your computer (like I am), you had better make sure that it will be compatible with the new operating systems.

Take Windows Vista for example. For best performance it will require a minimum of:

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 GB of system memory
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory, Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel
  • 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space
  • I’m taking those specs with a grain of salt because I’m already running that on my XP system and it could still use more juice as far as I’m concerned. It’s like planning for a vacation. Crunch the numbers and then multiply it by 2 and that will give you a more realistic ballpark figure to work with.

For a list of Vista features, prices, strengths, weaknesses and more check out Google Operating System.
