Why Blog you might Ask?

So Why Not?

It wasn’t that long ago when everybody was asking what the heck this blogging thing was anyway, but now they’re asking why blog at all.

Sometimes I even ask myself that same question. Besides all of the fame, glory and money it brings ;-), it always comes down to the same reasons.

Some will say we blog because:

“they must join in to lend proof of, or significance to, their existence”
OR
“maybe they just think it’s fun to blog”

But for me it’s because:

1. It keeps me connected. I’ve had my share of health issues, and despite the fact I haven’t been able to get out as much as I would like to I can still interact with the world;

2. It gives me a way to express myself besides talking to the walls. My wife once told me to stop yelling at the TV news channel and get involved. So I became a politician. But then I realized that I don’t like the politics (does anybody else notice the contradiction :)

3. It soothes my itch for playing with tech stuff. I just love my ‘puter and everything that goes with it. Before I discovered blogging I liked nothing more than staying up late at night fiddling with its inner workings, getting myself into trouble and then fixing it. Blogging has given me a life again;

4. It challenges me to be a better writer, a better communicator. Just when I think I’ve made the grade I discover other bloggers out there who raised the notch another level and its back to the drawing board again. Challenge keeps the brain in tune and the alzheimer’s at bay.

What are your reasons for blogging?

  1. You already said it, name, fame and money ;)

    For me blogging started out as an experiment three years back. Today it’s my primary hobby :)

  2. And now you have no life! Right? ;-)

  3. I’ve had a website called 2young2retire.com since 1998. Just started a blog by the same name because I wanted to give people a way of talking back to me. Also because I keep turning up interesting bloggers (like you!) and the writing, when it’s good, is very good: courageous, vibrant, as good as you can find anywhere. And because no trees are destroyed in this form of communications.

  4. Thanks for dropping by Marika. I bookmarked you. BTW, what is a certified facilitator? Save the trees!

  5. We are training and certifying people to lead the 2young2retire course, based on our book: Too Young to Retire: 101 Ways to Start the Rest of Your Life (Plume 2004). The course helps people 50+ to answer the question What’s Next, because few of them will retire in the conventional sense — for economic and other reasons — and many have not given this extended period of life much thought. Thanks for asking!

  6. I blog for myself as validation for my thoughts. Living in a foreign country, it’s a way for my friends to check in on me and see what’s up. It also serves as my soapbox for things here I need to relate and/or bitch about. Did you see my “boyfriend” blog? Yep, it finally happened. Now we’ll see how long it last…

  7. I hope it works out so I don’t have to worry anymore about you being alone in the wilderness.

    Think positively and remember that inevitably he’s gonna screw up, but he’s just a guy and it’s the nature of the beast. Be patient and train him well. God knows my wife is still trying. ;-)

  8. Hey Blog Bloke! First time here.. Thought I’d share a link to yesterday’s entry on my blog that talks about the same thing. We’ve got a blogging conference coming up next month in Vancouver, and I’m looking forward in taking part.

    Here’s the entry: http://netchick.ca/archives/905

    I’ll be back!

    Cheers,
