Things do Go Better with Coke, er… Wordpress

Just a quick note on how things are progressing with my new Wordpress theme.

I don’t know if it’s just me but I’m finding this easier than when I was switching over to the New Blogger. Blogger uses some unconventional coding, whereas Wordpress seems more straightforward to me. I also thought I was going to have become a PHP guru to accomplish this but so far it hasn’t been necessary.

For example, I just implemented my logo into my header. There is a plethora of support out there and it was easy to find the section of code in the header file that I needed. Then it was just a matter of copying and pasting my existing Blogger code, and with a bit of fiddling … ouila — there it is!

The same goes for my favicon. Not only was it easier to implement BUT it works even better than it did with Blogger, AND the page also loads so much faster now. Bonus!

AND did I mention that things like making the post page permalinks smarter is also much easier with Wordpress? In Blogger you had to write lines and lines of code, but in Wordpress it’s almost automatic. Sweet!

Funny, but I thought this Wordpress thing was going to be hard! Of course, it wouldn’t hurt to learn PHP because it truly lends some magic to Wordpress, and with a little elbow grease and know-how it can turn your blog into a Content Management System.

COOL! It seems that things really do go better with Wordpress.

  1. Staying up late eh ? Oh I forget, you are three hours behind me !
I too just finished re-organizing my home-page ! I hope it serves much better now.

Regarding your new blog, I thought you were working on a new theme.
But hey, I’m glad you’re getting there with ease and I can’t wait to see the finished product.

Speaking of coke, (to me that’s CocaCola and you can’t change it !) - I was watching Barbecue America yesterday where Rick made “Ham in CocaCola“!
He let the Ham boil in onion and CocaCola for 2 hours - and put it in the oven at 500 F after.
I was drooling (and almost licked the TV) at the end-result !
I am wondering if I could do the same with Beef/Chicken !

  2. I was having so much fun fiddling with the new blog that I almost forgot to go to bed (6:30am). Regarding Coke, did you know there are 49 tablesoons of sugar in just one can? That’s one sweeeeeeet ham!

    Merry Christmas Jaffer!

  3. The new theme is looking great, Blog Bloke! Glad to see you decided to include the video function and all!

I don’t know much about PHP either. I have learned a few things from using WP themes (mostly how to use PHP includes). I agree that customization is easier with Wordpress, especially as you can host all of the files you need right on your own site!

One of my readers told me that many in Sweden have been boycotting Blogger in favor of WP due to those recent blunders with the commenting/communications! I’ll try to get some more info and will let you know about this ASAP.

    Best wishes for the season!

  5. I used to blog under another platform, but they kept changing things on me. Finally, I went out on my own, got my own URL, and got Wordpress. It was the best thing that I could do. I really like it. I would recommend to anyone serious about having their own little spot on the internet to consider doing the same.

  6. Amanda, I believe Blogger lost a lot of bloggers and hence, a lot of Adsense revenue. It serves them right for being so arrogant and imposing there spam paranoia on us all.

Commenting was their weak point and it was stupid of them to do what they did. There were many of us who were already on the brink of switching, and they gave us the opportunity to give Wordpress a chance.

There reaction to losing us was much too slow and by that time it was too late. The blogosphere moves at the speed of light and after you’ve tried Wordpress it’s kinda like sex … once you’ve tried it there’s no turning back the clock.

  8. Hi Astroprof. Thanks for dropping by. Besides the obvious benefits, there are so many little things that I like about Wordpress that I couldn’t possibly post all of them. It truly is a superior product.

  9. Hey there Blog Bloke,

I was just wondering if you could point me to any articles or resources that can help me better understand Blogger’s template system and Widget system (their website is very weak for this)

I’m pretty accomplished at using CSS and HTML, but the blogger templates and widgets just seem to confuse me?

Maybe you can write an article on it? then again, if you don’t have anything, i’ll just do a day or two’s research and share some with you ;) maybe come on as a guest blogger (since I really don’t run a Blog about Blogging)

  11. Coke has always been an attractive theme for anything. This world-renowned logo has created an empire. Using Coke as wordpress theme is definitely hot! Wordpress users were probably happy with it.
