The Easy Way to add Translation Links (International Flag Icons) to Your Blog
English is quickly becoming a minority language as the blogosphere goes international. Probably at least half of my readers are international, so anything that will make your blog more readable and convenient for your readers is a plus.
I’ve been getting a lot of requests asking me how I was able to add translation links (flag icons) on my sidebar. Instead of answering everyone individually I might as well just post it so all of you can use it.
The method below shows instructions how to put it into a New Blogger Blog using a custom design template. The code however should also work for any type of blog platform. Your interface and method of pasting it into your template will just be a little different. So here you go:
Log into your New Blogger Dashboard and click on ‘Layout or Template‘.
When you first login you should see something like this:
Or, if you are already in your ‘Template‘ menu you should see something like this:
In this example I’ve circled “Add a Page Element” in the top Navbar area. You don’t want to add your code there. Scroll down the page further to your sidebar and you will find another “Add a Page Element” link. Choose that one.
So click on ‘Add a Page Element‘ in your sidebar and then choose ‘HTML/JavaScript‘…
and copy and paste the following code into the ‘Content‘ area:
Save it and then drag and drop your new widget to wherever you want it to appear on your blog (usually somewhere near the top of your sidebar).
And that’s it! You now have a set of translation links so your international visitors can read your blog.
Let me know how it works on your blog.

Darned, I wish I had read this post before I went to all the trouble to add other ones! Now I’m gonna go off and follow your clear instructions on the rest of my blogs!
Ok…I’m back! I have the new Blogger, but I don’t see any such thing as a Page Elements! Where is it hiding anyway? Grrr…..
Ok, I’ve updated the post with some pics. Let me know if that helps Kuanyin.
Maybe Blogger is different for you folks Down Under, but for my NEW Blogger, there is no such animal as Page Elements! I wonder how you got that feature! Hmmm….and I really don’t want to hammer on Blogger because you know they take forever to respond! Mahalo for trying to help me! This is very weird.
Hi Kuanyin. You may have upgraded, but are you still using the “Classic” version of your old template. That might explain the different interface.
If your template is still in “classic” mode then you won’t see the Page Elements page. If that is the case you can still copy and paste the code the good old fashioned way.
