Template Redesign is Almost Done

By Blog Bloke October 19th, 2007 | 12 Comments Buzz thisBuzz it Share this on Facebook

Have you noticed my new menu just above the post? It’s all part of the grand design for the new and improved Blog Bloke. This is what I’ve done so far:

1. Totally redesigned the banner with two new, original logos.

2. Created a Wee-Bloke caricature of myself.

3. Cleaned up the sidebar by juggling things around and removed the edges to blend into the background.

4. Changed the grey background to a white to brighten the template up.

5. Created a new menu just above the post body for featured links.

6. Fit the page to a 1024 x 768 pixel size which is the screen resolution that most of my readers are using.

7. All I have left to do is revamp the footer. As an experiment I’m going redesign it into a footer bar. The reason I’m doing this is because it will be less scrolling to get to the bottom of the page by putting some of the things that are in the sidebar into the footer bar.

What you do think. Is it cool?

    1. Your blog is looking good BB. I have implemented many things that you have done and posted about on this blog to mine.

I still can’t figure out how to get the continue reading link to work tho.

    5. Thanks Jaffer. I knew a geek like you would appreciate it. :)

I’ve been noticing a lot of the bigger blogs doing it so I thought I would try it myself. I think it’s a nice touch and what’s even better is I did it myself. They of course paid someone.

Until yesterday I wasn’t sure how I would do it. My daughter was sick and kept me up all night so I went on the computer and started tinkering and came up with it in a few minutes.

It worked out better than I expected.

    6. Thanks Jason. It’s even more fun doing it :)

I think it’s a good learning experience for my readers to see how to evolve a template, whilst at the same time I’m creating a log of what I’ve accomplished.

I’m really enjoying it and find it very calming and fulfilling when it all comes together.

    7. I like it - I especially like that you fixed the size. That scrollbar to see the last few pixels on the right side of the screen was annoying.

    8. Kirsten, did you notice I included a link for members of the Blokester Network that you inspired?

    9. just wanted to say,
finally it fits perfectly on 1024 :D

one more thing, if you could change the red hover thing, it would be nicer ;)

      have a nice sunday mr.b :)

    10. What’s the matter with the red hover background colour?

    11. Catching up with my feeds so only just managed to stop by and have a mooch around.

Liking the new look, BB. It still takes a while to fully load for me, though. I don’t know if it’s the MBL widget or the Google news one but something makes the page load slow…

Great idea for the Wee-Bloke, by the way ;)

    12. Yeah I noticed that too. I think it’s Google related because I’ve been getting server errors from them as well. I already ditched the YouTube widget and if the problem continues the news widget will also go.
