Switching to FeedBurner Email Subscriptions
You might have noticed that I’ve added a FeedBurner Email Subscription form in the right-hand sidebar.
I’ve held off until now because I was waiting for them to properly integrate email management features into the dashboard.
I will continue to support my existing FeedBlitz subscribers for a little while longer but I encourage you to make the switch over to FeedBurner as soon as possible because I can’t do it for you.
Why FeedBurner email? Well, besides it’s simplicity it allows me to brand the emails with my logo (for free) and doesn’t have all the obtrusive graphics that FeedBlitz plasters on the emails.
But most importantly, FeedBurner email subscriptions are included in the subscriber statistic reports:
“Your total daily circulation always includes any email subscription clients as contributors. Therefore, any requests for circulation numbers through our Awareness API should be for your entire circulation, including all email sources.”
I suspect that is the main reason why most of the big blogs have also made the switch over to FeedBurner email. Sweet!
So I’m recommending that you offer FeedBurner email as an option to your readers too. You will find it in your FeedBurner dashboard under “Publicize”, “Email Subscriptions”.
TIP! When you are pasting the code into your template, remove this part:
Most viewers today use a pop-up blocker in their browser which will hamper their ability to see the subscription form. Removing the code will force it to open in a new window instead.
