A Slight Change in Commenting Policy

July 28th, 2007 by Blog Bloke | 5 Comments

Because of my skirmish yesterday at the House of Rowse I’ve had to reconsider my commenting policy. As you know I was the victim of a blogside curbing by an anonymous commenter posing as an impartial third party. I have my suspicions that the poser was in fact directly related to the blog but that’s here nor there at this time.

When I invited the poser to come over to my blog and continue the attack here I insisted that he unveil the mask and provide a name and a blog address. Then I realized from personal experience that he would probably not comply and just continue to berate me anonymously.

So I decided in the wee hours of the morning last night to impose comments from registered blogger users only. That of course goes against every fibre of my being because I don’t believe in moderating comments in the name of anti-spam or whatever excuse they use out there. There are better ways to accomplish that as I have already discussed in other posts.

I know it’s sad but nevertheless I felt it imperative to do so at this juncture, and whether or not this will be a permanent fixture I haven’t decided as yet. I apologize for the inconvenience and it only takes a moment to register if you haven’t done so already (and no charge :).

Cheers, and thanks for understanding.

  1. If they have to hide sheepishly behind anonymous then they don’t deserve to be heard. Some people can’t figure out how to register, sad but true. For those, they can just respond to your email address.
It’s your blog and you can do what you damn well please. Freedom of speech works both ways.
I love the format you have now so don’t fancy it up too much. Cheers.

  2. I know how it feels bloke. There was this guy who became really jealous of my blog and my blog’s success. So not only he harassed me, but he also threatened me and tried to devalue my blog on his website! Well he had a geocities account so I notified yahoo and they closed it. Then he set up another one on another free server and they closed that one too.

The fact is that when you have enemies you know that you are popular and you are doing the right thing. It is impossible to please everyone and some might get ticked off. Anytime I receive a hate mail, I consider that posted by my #1 fan of the world. I usually reply politely and humbly and that usually gets them and the hate mails stop coming.

    Hope that helps!

*Notice to all you guys out there. Stop sending hate mails! This just shows you are some juvenile delinquents.

  3. I have to admit that I’ve been very fortunate so far. I’ve had very little problems except for my few spats with Darren Rowse and his minions.

Anybody want to go to “Elite Retreat” this year? Or how about joining the “6 Figure Income” conference. I could use the extra cash.

  4. Thanks for the vote of confidence Tica. I really want to keep this blog in an open format so that everyone can feel safe to voice their opinion.

I can’t stand some of the a-list types who, once they get popular turn off the conversation and become Sunday morning preachers.

  5. Hi Mushfiqur.

You are right with your approach. I have to admit that I was tempted to just tell the anonymous joker off, but then I realized it would probably inflame the situation.
