Are You A Neglected Blogger?

I don’t know if you realize it or not but writing tutorials can be very hard work, like the previous post that I just wrote the other day. Whew! And that was just a short one. Generally speaking, I can only write about one of these per week because it takes so much out of me.

The good news however is I was Stumbled upon, so I know that it has been read by lots of folks. But what really blows my mind is how few comments that it received.

That reminds me of a special group of talented coders that I know who once wrote hacks and widgets for Blogger users, but they no longer do it because they were discouraged by the lack of appreciation they got. In fact, some Digg users had even trolled them for their efforts. Sad but true!

So I thought I would take this opportunity to offer a friendly suggestion to everyone who has ever read a useful tutorial. When you come across a post (and I don’t mean just mine) that helps you, please don’t forget to leave a comment to the author and show your appreciation because most bloggers like myself are not being paid to do this.

A small gesture like a word of encouragement, subscribing to the newsfeed, a link or a Digg will go a long way and give an impetus for bloggers like me to keep on writing. After all, all that it will cost you is just a moment of your time.

Like I said, I’m not just speaking for myself. I know of lots of neglected bloggers out there who work their little hearts out to help all of you to make your blog better, so please give them your encouragement once in a while.

I know they will appreciate it, and in the end you will be the one who will be most blessed from all of their hard work.

Ramani, though ignorant of the ways of the Digg crowd, had every right to be disappointed.

  7. I can’t agree with you more Bloke. I spend quite a bit of time writing those in depth reviews of sites and services and instead of being monetized for it, I would much rather see a wealth of appreciative users who actually got something out of it. Link love, comments, a digg, stumbleupon, an email saying thank you, any one of these ways could really impact the blog author in a positive way. More often then not, showing appreciation in a way that I described above can really ignite or re-ignite the passion inside of the blogger. I think I’m not alone when I say this but when you see a user or groups of users being appreciative of your work and actually getting something out of it, you begin to get this tingling sensation which is indescribable.

I recently wrote an in depth review on a new service called InviteShare InviteShare - Web 2.0 Invitation Exchange Station and lo and behold, the owner of that service actually found my site and left a comment. Then he took a banner image of my site and placed it on the front page of InviteShare as a means to show off the press that his service was getting. Boy did I get a lot of traffic from that and it’s still flowing through.

That’s the kind of appreciation that I think your after, right Bloke?
