Reactions to Nick Berg’s Beheading

x5q1u17p Reactions to Nick Bergs BeheadingI have been reading mixed reactions of others about Nick Berg’s beheading video and found that they range from shock to outrage to even making humour of the spectacle.

So why is that? Was it really funny, or is it our way of dealing with the traumatic event? Are we trying to show the world how tough we are, or is it just a classic case of denial?

I know that I have been forever changed by viewing this video. This was not just a graphic image on a Play Station game. It was not Hollywood magic so I could hide behind my smugness in the knowledge that it was not real. No, it was reality in its most brutal form. A man actually had his head sawed off by a madman with a dull knife.

We are facing an enemy that hates without limit and is capable of unspeakable atrocities. Like others I wish I hadn’t seen it because it is brutally disturbing. But it was the final blow that convinced me of the madness of this war.
