I agree Jonny. Blogging (or writing) on the internet is an extremely powerful and empowering technology, and it's not going anywhere but up. But it's also evolving and who knows really what it will be 5 years from now. I can only hope that government keeps it's big nose out and let the people have their say.

Once blogging is in your blood, it's not goin' nowhere, man. Hehe. For awhile I thought blogging would be a fad. But I don't think that's the case. It may not always be called blogging... But i think there will continue to be some sort of something like this for a long time forward. The internet has certainly changed everything. TV is nothing compared to the internet, in my opinion. In fact, I almost never watch TV anymore. I wonder how many other people don't watch TV anymore? Probably enough to give some TV people chills.

I've been tweaking the template and finally got the second menu to show up in Firefox. What a pain! It took me hours going over the code, and as usual it ended up being just a minor adjustment. I will say one thing in favor of Internet Explorer ... at least it's forgiving when it comes to code.

Sorry to hear about you computer woes Sue. Check out my post on recovering from a disaster and making sure it doesn't happen again:

Thanks for your insights into a book. I'm getting so many ideas that my head is spinning. Should I put it all into one super-book or write a bunch of smaller books?

Hmm...

After an enforced break from blogging because of a PC reformat that went badly wrong I too have been out of the loop lately. I think you have enough timeless blogging information in this blog to provide content for a book.

Although you cannot produce all totally original information if it is to be a general kind of book on blogging your own personal perspective, honest analysis and writing style will make it different to anything written before. Speaking your mind, relating your own experiences and giving your own views will add to its originality.

<em>Sueblimely's last blog post..<a href='http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BloggingSueblimely/~3/270187366/' rel="nofollow">Blogger Appreciation Day</a></em>

I will Teri. I miss blogging too. It's one of those things that if it's in your blood you can't let it go. Right now I'm focusing on fixing a few imperfections in the blog design that I've been neglecting. Once I get back into writing again it will never get done so I'm taking advantage of the break. I also want a more clear focus and goal in mind for the blog before I start to write again.

Thanks for being patient and the encouragement. You're a (Georgia) peach. :-)

Of course, none of us have "forgotten" about you. People just don't comment but they check on you. I'm amazed how many readers I have and how many DON'T leave a comment. I don't think they know that's what fuels a blog, interest.
Do what you love and the readers will follow.
I hope you are working on things that make you happy.
I've quit blogging and I'm back again. Just can't stay away.
How 'bout you? C'mon, give us a post....
Miss Ya, Teri

And here I thought you had forgotten all about me. I've been taking it easy and doing one of my favorite pastimes, fiddling with the template whilst mulling things over.

I just got over a migraine and I'm in the middle of a tête à tête email exchange with Darren Rowse. Not sure where that's going either. Maybe it's the reason for the headache. ;-)

I'm still considering the subject of my book and the future of my blogging career. There's much to consider.

Thanks for asking Teri. Still no definite answers yet but I'm working on it.

Wow! I would hate the thought of blogs going corporate. Blogs are so fascinating by nature. I would like to see a chapter on values as far as not taking advantage of people in need when blogging. Remember we are blogging to real people.

Thanks Asia'h and Raconteur.

The blogosphere is evolving but to the extent that what we now call blogging may become something completely different. If the social network phenomena continues to grow, instead of writing on our own blogs we will be writing for a corporate website.

Which is self defeating as far as I'm concerned because we are relinquishing our control and privacy over to a faceless boardroom of stiffs who's only concern is the almighty dollar.

I'd hate to see you off the internet, for what it's worth.

As for your book, being something of a writer myself... (Well, aren't we all? At least we all seem to think so)...

At any rate, I'd like a chapter dedicated to blogging prospectives. The future of blogging as a whole, and how much really can new bloggers expect to receive, in terms of readership, rather than money.

Of course, there is such a thing as content, but extremely brilliant content and extremely mundane content aside, if you do everything you're supposed to do in the 'marketing' chapters others have suggested...

Where can you expect to end up really? Is the Blogosphere really dying? Where will we be in ten year's time, or even two?

Questions that need answering, which no one really seems to want to talk about.

<strong>WOW!</strong>

Thank you Kathy and Teri! You really put some thought and effort into this.

No, I'm not afraid I asked but I am wondering how I can stretch the fabric of the space/time continuum to fit it all into one lifetime. Maybe you can help me to write it too :-)

And thanks for the encouragement Curtis. I really appreciate it.

Fantastic ideas. You guys are GREAT!

Hey BB. I would also buy a book you would write. As far as Ideas, I really have none. History of blogging sounds really interesting.

<em>Curtis's last blog post..<a href='http://growingthumbs.com/2008/04/05/spring-peas-and-thank-you/' rel="nofollow">Spring Peas and Thank You!</a></em>

Bloke -- You know I'd be first in line to buy a book if you wrote one. I'm a little concerned about the time-sensitive nature of blogging. It would have to cover more of the non-technical aspects of blogging because by the time it went to press, new platform versions are already rolled out, along with new plug-ins and/or new versions of them. With so many differences between themes, plug-ins, structure, might be hard to catch everyone under one net.

So....what I'd like to see:

1. History of blogging and the changes that have taken places since its inception.

2. Mechanics of good writing, post structure (length, layout, language, site design), differences between writing for blogs vs. writing for print, and tips for that "must read" post.

3. Social networking (uses and pitfalls)

4. Time management tips for bloggers.

5. Copyright issues (both text and images).

6. Marketing yourself, your blog and your brand. How to reach the larger non-blogging community.

7. Where do you see blogging headed in the next 5 years, 10 years? Trends, fads, average lifespan of a blog.

8. Tips for people, like me, who do not use ads on their blogs, but still want to make money from it. What are some non-ad methods to generate revenue?

9. Online relationships: How they form, differences between online and offline relationships, getting thoughts and ideas across to others without the use of verbal or gestural communication (and misunderstandings that can occur without them), and dealing with troublesome comments (delete them or address them?)

10. Putting personal information on blogs (this extends to MySpace, Facebook, etc). Discuss the longevity of what you post, considerations for privacy and the effect what you post can have on current and future "day job" employment.

11. Censorship, libel, and defamation in blogs. Cases filed (knocked down or won); general legal considerations for bloggers. Dangers and benefits of anonymous posting/commenting.

12. Blogs used as an educational tool (primary and secondary schools); blogs run by newspaper staff; blogs used as an extension of static business websites.

13. International blogging issues (free speech, copyright across nations, percentage of English to non-English blogs, popularity of blogs by nation/continent).

Ok, that's enough for now. Are you sorry you asked?
