Windows WMF Vulnerability is Patched, I Think

By now you’ve probably heard about the latest vulnerability that exploits Windows Meta Files (WMF). Despite the danger that the flaw presented, Microsoft announced it wouldn’t make a patch available until Tuesday, January 10.

Hurrumph. So until next Tuesday we were told not to visit any sites we don’t trust. Which of course goes for about 95% of my internet activity because that would include sites I’ve never visited before!

Shel Holtz told us there was a third-party fix available for those of us who couldn’t wait until Tuesday. The problem is I’ve never visited the site before.

Then again, apparently Microsoft was listening to us after all and made their patch a little sooner than planned. I’ve watched soap operas with less fanfare.

Until the next crisis…
