Oh Behave.. It’s a Given for Gavin

MORE ON THE JOHN GRAY DEBACLE … Gavin Sheridan responds to Grey’s lawyer threatening legal action.

I BELIEVE IN ACCOUNTABILITY for our words and actions. In the blogosphere I see way too much abuse thrown about in the name of free speech. Because we can hide behind an internet persona some of us resort to our lower nature thinking that we can remain anonymous with diplomatic immunity. Much like when we get behind the wheel of a car, we do and say things we would never consider if we were walking down the sidewalk.

IF WE ALLEGE something in our blogs we had better make a reasonable effort to be certain of its accuracy and prepared to stand by our words. Sending threatening legal letters is NOT the answer, BUT if we don’t start policing ourselves the lawyers will do it for us. And another thing - let us not forget the internet has broad borders and not all jurisdictions share the same love affair with freedom of speech as America.

FELLOW NET CITIZENS, let’s keep the lawyers out of the Blogosphere and be civil to one another. In the words of the immortal Austin Powers - “Oh behave” (please).
