Link Bait: Sounds More like Jail Bait to me

Linkbaiting is back in the news again (also spelled Link Bait). For those of you who don’t know, it has come to represent a much used (or abused) practice of attracting more readers to your blog.

However, (by the shere connotation of the term link “bait”) for myself the name seems to intimate that it can be a dishonest practice. The fact that it has also been abused by many to attract readers without strong or relevant content to back it up hasn’t helped either. (I have written extensively on the subject @ “Getting More Traffic to Your Blog”).

Copyblogger is running a vote on the continued use of the term “Linkbait”. So for reasons already said I don’t particularly like the name and I’m all for avoiding it like the plague, so long as whatever ends up replacing it is done ethically.

P.s.: A nice demonstration of linkbaiting there Brian ;-)

  1. Yeah, I’m getting really frustrated by some bloggers on the net today. You see some post promoted, and it kind of flops. That, or they just stir drama looking to get attention band people linking to them. Gets old imo.

  2. Amen!
