Known Issues for Blogger Beta

has created a blog specifically for bugs and missing features in Beta that are affecting a significant number of users.

Just another reason why the Bloke has refused to delve into that cesspool (yet). I have better things to do than being a beta tester for (unless they want to pay me for wasting my time).

And speaking of wasted time, this sounds an awful lot like Microsoft’s strategy (aka Bill Gates) who made a lucrative career out of releasing unfinished, buggy software at our expense.

But at least it’s still optional (for now). So you can choose to take the pain now, or wait for a little less pain later. It’s your choice. For obvious reasons I chose the latter.

This has been a public service announcement from Blog Bloke.

It’s (sort of) a relief to learn that’s it’s “them” and not me that is causing all my difficulty using Beta Blogger (mostly inserting photos). Would you recommend composing my post using another “service” (i.e. typepad) and then posting to Blogger?

  2. MyAvatars 0.2

Absolutely NO. TypePad has its own idiosyncrasy’s and one is not necessarily easier than the other. And TypePad will also cost you.

I’m recommending that you stay with the old Blogger for now and give them time to work the kinks out.

If you absolutely must play with Blogger Beta, then create a test account for that and leave your old blog alone.

You can also use third party software such as w.bloggar for your posting. But it might not work well with Blogger Beta until it has been (hopefully) updated.

I created a test account just for that purpose, to see what it can do. I’ve got lots more playing around in it before deciding whether or not to switch before the whip is cracked, but at the very least I want to be able to get used it it.

I wonder how many future dead blogs are being created because of Blogger’s encouragement to create test blogs?

Hi kirsten. All the more blogs for them to sell Adsense.

  5. MyAvatars 0.2

AdSense, sure… but dead blogs aren’t good for the overall service. I’ve nearly stopped using the “next blog” button because most the blogs I find are “dead” or at least never got past the “Edit- me” links in the sidebar…

Ditto Alessia. Blogger has become a virtual graveyard of dead blogs.
