I'm not surprised that Jay was "severely affected". Jay is a comment spammer. He leaves anodyne but plausible comments all over the blogosphere in an attempt to generate traffic and improve the search rankings of his blog. Search for his moniker elsewhere if you don't believe me.

I'm calling it the blunder of the century (or at least the new millennium). Like Forrest Gump once said, "stupid is as stupid does". Arrogance has no bounds.

Yeah, I was one of those who were severely affected by the sudden change. And I just saw that they allowed people to put their URLs again. But I'm really curious as to why they stopped it in the first place.

Well hello and gooday everyone! How I love to read all your comments. I'm hoping that after my move over to Wordpress I'll have even more of them to read.

To answer your question Mike I'm planning (hoping) to turn the switch on New Year's day. I still have a lot of tweaking to do before it will be usable but I'm getting there and thanks so much for the compliment.

The new look is more like a Content Management System than a blog and it will showcase my work better and make it more sticky and usable for readers.

Kirsten, Jaffer, Kathy, Amanda, and Debbie ... you guys are terrific and I'm really looking forward to blogging with you in 2008 as we move onwards to bigger and better things.

Speaking of Google errors, some bloggers have been exploring how to wake up Blogging Companies at What is going on at Technorati ????? to fix their bogus software.

My last comment to Jos about Google fixing their comment errors was recently posted and is reprinted here:

Holy Mackerel, Jos!

Looks like your OpenIDiot identification system idea brought about a positive(?) change at Google! If Google's step backwards works for comments than our PR (Present Ration) spoofing campaign might fix their bogus PR system, too?

Thanks to Google's OpenID, this comment was posted by Debbie

When do you think you'll complete the move fully to WordPress? I'm loving what you've done with the new look, by the way.

I think Google have finally realized their mistake now, thanks to the many bloggers and forum posters who were so angry with the initial change in comment policy.

However, there are still many things which I am unhappy about regarding Blogger. Google/Blogger deny all responsibility for content on our blogs, and yet deny us full control over our comments. Anyone can create a blog, and does not need to verify their identity (or even their email address) to do so. Which is probably why there are so many spam Blogger blogs.

One of my readers was happy about the original change in comment policy as he believes it makes it more difficult for malicious people to steal another's identity and impersonate them. While I don't agree the original change was a good idea at all, his comments did make me think more about the flaws in Blogger's policies.

Wordpress defectors have more reason to change platform than they think!

Well done to all who now host and control their own blogs. I hope all goes smoothly for you, and would gladly offer advice if anyone needs it!

I'm looking forward to making the change myself, which will be after the holidays sometime - when I get used to the new biweekly paycheck instead of weekly, and when the hustle and bustle of the holidays is over.
