Italian hostage executed in Iraq
One of four Italian hostages identified as Fabrizio Quattrocchi has been executed, and the hostage-takers are threatening to kill the rest if their demands are not met. “The abductors want Italy to withdraw its 2,700 troops from Iraq. The office of Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi said a top diplomat was being sent on an urgent mission to Iraq to try to secure the release of the remaining Italians but Berlusconi is refusing to back down”… CNN
A defiant Fabrizio met his fate bravely:
- “When the murderers were pointing a pistol at him, this man tried to take off his hood and shouted: ‘Now I’m going to show you how an Italian dies’. And they killed him,” Frattini said.
“He died a hero.”
Conundrum: So how do you reason with unreasonable people? Do you act tough and say “No Negotiations”, OR do you sit and talk? Sooner or later the talking has to begin. So why not now before more people die?
