Google+ for “Everyone” to Open “Soon”. BUT What About The Rest Of Us?

By July 21st, 2011 8 Comments   Share

Mr. Christian Oestlien (Google’s Group Product Manager for Google+) announced Google+ for Businesses will soon be open to “everyone”. Apparently the platform is not ready for that upgrade level yet.

Notice here the keyword that Google+ will soon be open to “EVERYONE“.

Whoopy!

Really? Think Again:

With so many qualified candidates expressing intense interest in business profiles, we’ve been thinking hard about how to handle this process. Your enthusiasm obligates us to do more to get businesses involved in Google+ in the right way, and we have to do it faster. As a result, we have refocused a few priorities and we expect to have an initial version of businesses profiles up and running for EVERYONE in the next few months. There may be a tiny handful business profiles that will remain in the meantime solely for the purpose of testing how businesses interact with consumers. Source.

If we look at the fine print that option is still a “few months” away. Which could mean not until next year. Preferred business clientelle will however be allowed to continue using Google+. Money talks.

I can’t help but appreciate the irony in all this because apparently Mr. Oestlien and his team have their head in the sand and still don’t get it. It’s not going to help people like me who are not a “business”. Read this if you don’t believe me.

It will however be “business” as usual for the internet marketers selling their wares to the unwarry on Google+. They may be using a REAL name but they’re still running a backdoor marketing “business” aren’t they? (Rhetorical).

What a joke.

Seriously Dude..

You are being inconsistent and mincing words. There are still gaping holes in your “community standards” policy, and aren’t you avoiding the REAL subject … i.e. PRIVACY?

Try again sir (with all due respect).

  1. Google gets a kick back from every poor sap that probably will click a link on their page. And in return the company gets a kickback from google.

Believe Ill stick with Twitter and Facebook for all my needs.

@Curtis, Facebook is no better. I’m just sticking with Twitter and this blog for now. I’m not giving up my privacy rights just to use a social network.

@BLOGBloke, True. Facebook invented social media privacy invasion. Have 94 friends and only 10 of them are really friends (yourself included). The rest are acquiescence’s .

@BLOGBloke, Personally I am staying away from Twitter as I think it is going to go down the drain like Myspace. The majority of Twitter profiles are fake and I think that people are moving away from it now towards Google+. When Google+ plus allows business profiles then say goodbye to Twitter!
