The Google Broadcasting Network
How Google and Digg will transform the Blogosphere and Journalism:
I couldn’t agree more with this assessment. Tech Crunch says sites like Digg are going to change the way news is consumed, and it will transform journalists’ jobs as well. According to editor Mike Arrington:
At a recent online news association conference (User-Generated Content and Trends for 2007) “People are more and more realizing that editors aren’t necessarily the best ones to be filtering what’s the most important news”.
I’ve Seen the Future and I think I like it:
He predicts that more people will be turning to sites like Digg to filter the news. We will only be going to sources such as newspapers or TV for the news gathering and reporting of the information. That is the same sermon the Bloke has been preaching and it’s great news for all of us bloggers (no pun intended). Very cool.
Watching the GooTube:
But I would take the argument even further by adding with the advent of Google’s recent acquisition of YouTube, the new TV will take social networking to the next level and become the next evolution in disseminating the news.
I think I’ll call it:
GBN, the Google Broadcasting Network.
This is great news for we the people in general and democracy, because with the availability of cheap computers and online connectivity, WE will become the news filterers and opinionators instead of some behind the scenes news editor boss deciding for us.
Power to the People:
WE will decide what makes the news headlines and what doesn’t… and what can be more democratic than that?
