Facebook Is Trademarking ‘Face’ – So Is ‘Book’ Next?
We are the world, blah, blah, blah … let’s face it, Facebook trademarking the word ‘Face’ is a joke considering the fact that he stole the name in the first place. Which only proves that you can do anything you want if you have lots lots of money and you’re all lawyered up.
I was aware that Facebook is close to trademarking the term ‘face’, at least in relation to online social networking and related activities, in the United States. But as far as I know, nobody has yet pointed out that Facebook has already pulled that stunt in the EU, i.e. the union of 27 European member states (which include the UK, Germany, France and Spain). I think the notion is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard of and this isn’t the first time I have sounded off on this particular issue. I mean if some ass with a gazillion dollars and a truckload of lawyers can trademark any common word he feels like then what will happen to language, the freedom of it’s usage (at least in the U.S.) and creativity everywhere? I don’t want to be hindered every time I go to creating something - worrying about whether or not I can use a word like Face or Book without putting a damn symbol after it. RIDICULOUS!!!
