Drive Traffic to Your Blog and Follow the BlogRush
BlogRush is a free service that was created for just one purpose — getting more readers for your blog.
Widgets that promise to drive traffic to your blog are nothing new, but BlogRush is a little different. It’s a bit like multilevel marketing meets viral publishing:
BlogRush users earn “syndication credits” (the right to have their blog post titles shown inside a widget on another related blog) based on their own traffic (loads of the widget) as well as the traffic of other users they refer to BlogRush. Users can automatically refer others to BlogRush via special links on the widget, as well as through the promotion of a special referral URL they are given.
BlogRush is a “Cooperative Syndication Network” that rewards its users for their contributions to the network — from the impressions they provide of the BlogRush Widget to the referral of other users through 10 ‘generations’ of activity and the impressions of the widget that they provide. BlogRush was designed to be incredibly viral and to provide its users with tremendous distribution leverage to receive exposure for their blog content (onto related content blogs) that they could never achieve on their own; at least without a massive advertising budget.
Although in the past I have been harsh on the use of widgets, I think BlogRush serves a useful purpose and shows potential, so I have added it to my sidebar.
I will monitor BlogRush closely to see if it performs as promised - i.e. if I’m getting more traffic. I will also be looking at how it affects the performance of my blog… more specifically if it substantially slows down the loading of this page. But so far so good (knock on wood).
Another thing to consider is because of BlogRush’s design, early adopters will reap the greatest reward. So if getting more traffic to your blog is of interest to you, you should join up right away.

Some say it could be against adsense TOS as they don’t allow traffic exchange programs?

I’ve tentatively joined BlogRush but I’m not displaying the widget on a live page yet because it doesn’t fit my single-column blog design well at all. Since I have no sidebar for this to reside on, I’d sure like to see a horizontally-oriented version of the widget that could fit in or just above the page footer.
But even beyond the aesthetics, there seems to be the same handful of the blogs populating the list on nearly every site I’ve visited that features the widget. Perhaps this is a little bit of vanity talking here, but I’ve yet to see my any of own blog posts on any other BlogRush widget list…
I hope that the author will refine the “randomness” a bit more…

The BlogRush widget seems to load quite quickly on my blog so far.

Yeah, I guess it’s that MLM aspect rob o. The early birds get all the action. I’d be interested too if anybody sees my stuff showing up. But there I go being vain again :).
