Download Opera Browser for FREE!

download Opera now!

Opera Browser is now Freeware!

I have been an Opera user off and on throughout the years and its been interesting to watch its various incarnations.

So why has Opera gone free? Rumours abound but I suspect that Firefox has something to do with it. Firefox received a lot of publicity as a free alternative to IE, and all that Opera could do was sit on the sidelines as Firefox took the web by storm.

Now that Opera has done away with ads one can only wonder what their revenue model will be. It’s been rumoured that Opera is in bed with Google, supposedly receiving a percentage of AdSense clicks. Hmmm, a Google browser? I wouldn’t be surprised.

Or perhaps this free give away is a maneuver to increase marketshare and get users hooked on it for a future paid-for upgrade. Time will tell, but for now I’m happy that I got another browser for free. BTW, I never knew that they also provided other free services such blogs and email. Something new to play with in my spare time.

Opera bills itself as the fastest browser ever, and at this price it will quickly become a valuable addition to your software arsenal. I got my free browser. Get yours now.

@Peear, I agree. I just wish the mainstream would embrace it more so that we can get the popular plugins that are available for Firefox. Firefox seems to get all the publicity, but Opera beats it hands-down for performance and elegance.
