Do Blogs Create More Noise than Signal?

October 22nd, 2006 by Blog Bloke | 4 Comments

This sort of conversation is always brought up by the elitists who resent the fact that they might have to shout a little louder to be heard.

Oh well, live with it:

1. The question is illogical because the more bloggers that are out there, the more potential readers you will have;

2. The question is moot because it doesn’t matter. Even if only 1% of the blogosphere is just signal then it’s worth it because it is a cheap, empowering technology;

3. The definition of “noise” is subjective;

4. The question is irrelevant because the blogosphere makes democracy and freedom of speech universal, and that is a good thing. Unless of course if you are an anal retentive, dictatorial type (are you listening Kim);

5. And that’s why they call it broadband. There’s room enough for everybody.

I rest my case… source

  1. As usual I agree with you!
    Sure there’s more noise to signal, but the signal gets a little more diverse, the noise a little more democratic. It’s a good thing.

    I heard people the other day saying that domain sellers should raise the prices of domains to filter out the riffraff. OMG!

    I think it’s more important to make domains affordable than to filter out poor people.
