Convert Technorati Tags to Blog Search Links: Part II

TutorialI recommend that you read Part 1 of this tutorial first before continuing. If you find that just using the instructions in Part 1 worked for you then you won’t need to read any further.

But if you are having inconsistent results then you might want to keep reading. Keep in mind however that most of the problems seem to be at ’s end as their indexing is notoriously buggy and the stuff that legends are made of, so you might want to contact them directly to reset your blog.

In my previous post I demonstrated how you can create a link that will be picked up by as well as being able to search your blog by category/keyword using ’s new Blog Search feature.

However, although the post will be indexed by , sometimes it won’t show up in Technorati’s specific tag/category listings. So we might have to combine a tag to accomplish this. (I say again that this is optional only if you are having inconsistent results).

So let’s start where we left off in Part 1. Your link should look something like this:

< a href=”http://search..com/?as_q=yourkeyword&ie=UTF-8&ui=blg&bl_url=yourblog.blogspot.com&x=40&y=10″ rel=”tag”>yourkeyword

Now all you have to do is add a tag/category to the link that you’ve already made. For example, using the above I can add the following to it (I’m using blog bloke as my keyword example):

Here is how it will work. Just click on the link below and try it out for yourself:

Or click on any of my other links at the end of this post.

* Please note that an rel=”tag” with your keyword is in front of the URL, and no longer in front of the blog search URL.

BTW, you can modify this method to tag social bookmarks such as del.icio.us instead of if you wish. And that folks is all there is to it.

Oh yes, one more thing. I’ll bet you are asking yourself… how the he** do I do all that for each post. That’s a lot work isn’t it?

Well, not really. I know it seems daunting at first, but all you have to do is make an ordinary text file with some example links, and then copy and paste them into your post and modify the keywords to your liking.

Or, if you use third party software such as w.bloggar like I do, you can go into settings and have the text file pre-loaded every time you create a new post. Even allows you to do it via the formatting settings (Post Template). It’s that easy!

Then again, maybe some bright person will pick up the ball and create a javascript for it. Any takers?

Thanks David. I know if somebody else presented it to me I would probably have said the same thing. But once you edit some examples for your own blog it’s just a matter of copying and pasting from a text file into your post. Once you get the hang of it it’s really quite easy. It only takes me seconds. Really :-)
