Can You Really Make Money Blogging?

This is another common misconception that I hope to sort out today. The common belief is that is an easy way out to online. One good example is provided by all the small blogspot blogs with ads that have sprung up recently. These amateur bloggers believe that by writing an article or two and bombarding visitors with ads is the way to - but that is far from the truth. The cold hard truth is that is not an easy way to over the internet. I had to learn it the hard way. After reading all those great income reports by “dot com moguls” and the wealth of money making info out there, I was convinced to start my own blog. So I set it up, drop some syndicated articles and fill it with ads. What was the result? My grand total income for the month was, you guessed it, $0.
But that’s not to say that you can’t online by . Yes, you can , but only if you stick with it in the long run. It takes patience, trial and error and hard work to make even a dime. You won’t see any positive results in the first few months. But by then, most bloggers would drop out dissappointed. Professional bloggers know that a good deal of money can be made by in the long run. You just have to lay the foundation right.

So how do you lay the right foundation? Stay tuned because I’ll tell you. There’s more to follow.

Blogging is not a way for most people to make a living. I don’t blog to make a living. However, I’ve been at it for a while, and I try to have decent content. So, my ads bring in enough money to cover the hosting fees and a few other incidental expenses. I even make enough each month to buy a burger or two. From my perspective, though, having a hobby that pays for itself is all that I could ask for. Granting, if my blog were to start bringing in big bucks, I wouldn’t complain, but I’d sure be surprised!

I think a lot of people start blogging with the misconception they are going to be able to quit their day job within a few months. But the cold hard reality is even the ones who are claiming the big bucks admit their blog isn’t doing it. Shoemoney for example recently stated he only makes about 3% percent of his income from blogging.

I’m happy that he came clean because I’ve been stating for a long time that I don’t believe the exaggerated claims. Funny though that he still waves that (unverified) cheque in everybody’s nose — eh!

Anybody want to attend elite retreat this year ;-)

    What retreat?
I’d love to make money blogging but … I’d need a seminar and someone to show me how to do the links.

Sure Tica. All you need to do is pay $5,000 and you can learn how to make money from bloggers who don’t not make a lot of money from blogging.

But if anyone is that quick to part with their money, I’ve got an even better deal. Just send the Bloke $4,000 and I’ll teach you myself.

    Now that’s a deal ;-)

Here’s a suggestion Tica. Download download w.bloggar. It has a plethora of menu shortcuts that will make creating links etc. easy for you. You can also use it to write your posts if you wish, but right now you can’t publish to New Blogger. There is a newer version promised soon that will enable that in the future.

Also, in the Blogger “create a post” menu, if you click on the “compose” option it will give you some basic formatting shortcuts, including making links. It’s not as sophisticated as w.bloggar’s but it’s another option available to you.

    People make money Blogging? How?
I have yet to read one source that honestly details how to earn a living from Blogging!

I stumbled upon Problogger, Darren Rowse, during a search on why “Technorati doesn’t answer eMails.”
According to his bio, Darren makes a living from blogs. Is Darren the CEO of Google? Darren talks about adding income streams which I assume is ADs.

Unfortunately, I do not have the time to scan and/or read hundreds of posts to find the bottom line at Problogger.
And, nothing personal Darren, but there are too many blinking ads that distract reading your blog.

In general, blogs and web-sites with too many ads hiding their content are closed immediately. I did not visit their site to scan all their ads in order to locate their content!

Just in case someone spots the Google Adsense at the bottom of my blog, Adsense was added as a service to my readers and I will be shocked to see a red cent from AdSense! So far, my Google Adsense income after 5 months is $0. And, this is why my Blog is on Blogspot.com.

My ISP was punishing me this Saturday morning for using excessive bandwidth. Now that I am in the clear,

Here is a techCrunch article about how Google is now punishing pay-per-post bloggers:
