Blogs Without Comments are NOT (really) Blogs
Blogger Mark Cuban, tech entrepreneur and current owner of the Dallas Mavericks, has apparently turned off comments on his blog. In a recent post he laments that blog comments have become worthless.
For the record, I’m not turning on comments, they have devolved to the point where they add no value.
I can only wonder if Cuban also considers his cheering fans (that pay for his seats) useless banter as well. Copycat site Bloggers Blog (that also doesn’t have comments) had this to say:
Is thar gold in them thar comments? Anyone who thinks so obviously hasn’t read the comments on the celebrity gossip blogs which are often full of redundant unseemly nonsense.
Sorry folks but I have to respectfully disagree. That’s old media thinking.
Blogging is all about the conversation, not sermonizing from the mount.
Most bloggers would give their right nutella for the amount of traffic (and comments) that some of the A-listers get. But it seems that after they achieve their new found found fame and notoriety, the arrogance bug sets in and the A-listers want to shut out the same folk who put them there in the first place.
That’s kinda like the celebs whining about gawkers taking their pics and asking for autographs. When they were nobodies they would do just about anything to be noticed. But after they make it the only time they want to be seen is when they make the talk show rounds to promote their next movie or CD. Otherwise they hide behind their mansion walls and tell us to make like the birds and flock off.
I think they have a name for that. Oh yeah, now I remember — it’s called hypocrisy. You wanted it, you got it, but fame and adulation goes with the territory boys and girls. You have to take the good with the bad and the indifferent, so you won’t be getting any sympathy from me.
And “for the record” I will not link to any site that doesn’t allow comments or trackbacks. Unless of course they are an A-lister who might on the off-chance link back. (Now who’s the hypocrite ;-). Have a great day.

I like that idea, no linking to anyone who doesn’t have comments. If we just stopped linking to the elite, they wouldn’t be the elite for very long would they?
