Why Blogs Matter Video

By BLOGBloke March 4th, 2009 | 55 Comments Buzz thisBuzz it Share this on Facebook

Here is a great video by my new friend and blogging partner Ted Mann who is a journalist, Digital Development Director and writer for the Courier Post Online.

Ted is a self-confessed “passionate” blogger and not your typical journalist/blogger. In fact Ted is a strong proponent of the cause for blogging which is indeed a rare breed in journalism today.

Watch Ted’s video as he makes his case why blogs matter for citizen journalists and professional journalists alike.

    1. Thanks for the plug, Blog Bloke. I’m a pretty big believer in blogging being hugely important to the future of newspaper publishing, for one simple reason: the legacy newspaper content management systems stink.

Blog platforms like WordPress are just plain better. That’s why when you hear about newspapers moving to online-only versions, like the Seattle Post-Intelligencer situation, you also hear that they’re going to start publishing most of their content via blogs.

The problem is: so many newspaper editors still think blogging is a fad. We have to change that perception. And fast.

Ted, the same thing happened with Lawyers snubbing their nose at Paralegals, Doctors and Midwives/Nurses. Professions hate change, especially if they perceive taking a hit in their pocketbook.

When it comes to technology it’s important to see the tide, and when the trend says change - either you do it or die.

More than five years ago I stated that blogging was the greatest invention since the printing press. I also predicted that newspapers would have to move online and the Post Office had better focus on the parcel business or die. Most laughed at me at the time.

      Who’s laughing now?

    2. I like the analogy of blogging to qwerty typewriters. Cool!

      [ Reply..]

@Jon Boyd, blogging is sure a lot easier when you use qwerty typewriters because in blogging you’ll need a lot of work with typing :)
