A Blogger’s New Year’s Resolutions

It’s that time of the year again when we all set goals for ourselves. But for most us we dismally fail because our initial enthusiasm soon diminishes and is replaced by lame excuses.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Here are a few ideas I jotted down that will help you to stay on track and be an even better for 2007:

1. Make Realistic Goals:

  • The catchword here is to be “realistic”. Only set goals that you think you can really achieve. Don’t set a goal that you know is impossible because you will just get discouraged and give up. But then again, don’t underachieve either. Give yourself a challenge and remember the movie “What About Bob”? Baby steps, one step at a time.
  • Perhaps one of your goals this year is to increase your blog traffic? So by how by much? Set a goal with a real figure for say… 100 more visitors a week perhaps. Or maybe you just want to increase your newsfeed subscribers by 25%. Whatever you feel comfortable with.
  • So maybe you want to at (or more than just the chump change that you have already been making). That will mean investing a little more time learning about and other forms of advertising (and marketing methods). It will also mean increasing your blog traffic goals because it’s a number game.
  • Remember that writing quality posts regularly is an important factor for increasing blog traffic. Perhaps your ’s resolution might be to write more often, so set a figure for say… twice a week. Or maybe every other day?
  • Perhaps your template needs some major retrofitting. So you might need to make up your mind to learn a little more HTML and CSS skills, and that will mean setting aside a little time every week as well.
  • 2. Collaborate:

Help others. You reap what you sow in the blogosphere. Give and you shall receive. Old wisdom that is as just as relevant today as it was then.

But what if you need Help? Then ask the Bloke or someone else who is in the know. The blogosphere is renowned for its helpfulness, so just ask.

    3. Give Credit Where Credit is Due:

Link to those who have helped you achieve your goals. This is extremely important. Love might not always be for free, but giving your Link Love costs you absolutely nothing, and you have everything to gain.

    4. Post it.

Make your goals public so that that will be accountable and motivate you to redouble your efforts.

    5. A Plan of Action:

Now that you know what you want to achieve, do it. Set aside a realistic amount of time every day to achieve those goals you just made. Professional bloggers can easily spend 15 hours a day at the computer. So how much time are you willing to invest?

What are your blog ’s resolutions for 2007?

    1. You have a riveting web log and undoubtedly must have atypical & quiescent potential for your intended readership. May I suggest that you do everything in your power to honor your encyclopedic/omniscient Designer/Architect as well as your revering audience. As soon as we acknowledge this Supreme Designer/Architect, who has erected the beauteous fabric of the universe, our minds must necessarily be ravished with wonder at His infinate goodness, wisdom and power.

    2. My new year’s resolution for this year is to make $100 per week blogging. That would be nice.
