Bloggers and Sploggers

Can they be one and the same?

Further to my rant on Copycat Bloggers, I’ve come to the conclusion that there are about four types of so-called professional bloggers out there:

1. Some bloggers just copy and paste faq files (for example — from and Support), throw in a few extra words of their own and masquerade it as their own material to sell ads and . To me they are no different than splogs that illegally scrape copyrighted content from other sites.

2. Blogs that create posts from randomly selected information that they have swiped off the internet (commonly known as Googling) but don’t link to the original sources where they got the information from.

3. There are also pro bloggers out there who make a very good living from recycling older posts (i.e. plagiarizing their own material). Although this might not necessarily fit the classic definition of a , I question the of recycling older material to give the impression of an active blog and link baiting to make the search engines happy.

4. Then there are bloggers who attempt to write fresh, original material offering real value to readers, and ALWAYS link out to original sources.

I know which one I am. How about you?

  1. Gotta love the pro bloggers out there who also recycle others posts–without the hat tips. Pour salt to the wound when their posts get dugg and yours didn’t . Ah well. Used to bother me, now I just keep my head down and keep on doing the best work I can. Judging by the feedback I receive, readers do catch it and no one’s fooling anyone ;).

  2. Hi Terry: It’s good to know that you are not one of them ;-). Thanks for dropping by.

  3. Hehehe… I know exactly who you are talking about Bloke, and you are absolutely correct in your assessment.
