Blog Bloke a Spammer?

By Blog Bloke October 27th, 2005 | 6 Comments Buzz thisBuzz it Share this on Facebook

Must be Déjà Vu or at least a self-fulfilled prophecy. After writing about it only a couple of days ago it seems that I’ve been CAPTCHA’d by the good folk at Blogger.

As unbelievable as it sounds Blog Bloke has been identified by Blogger as a SPLOG (Spam Blog).

Are they kidding me? After being with Blogger for years, now all of a sudden I’m considered a spammer! Give me a break.

So that means I now have to use word verification to write all my posts. Which also means that I can no longer use wbloggar as my interface and have to log in to Blogger’s clunky dashboard.

What a bloody nuisance. It’s back to the drawing board so tweak those algorithms boys and girls.

I’ve contacted them and asked that they remove it immediately… stay tuned.

    1. It’s not fair to make legitimate bloggers pay for the sins of a few abusers. It’s crazy they would leave the decision making up to an algorithm bot. They should at least provide an over-ride switch to turn it off.

    2. The eye of a human is important and a bot just can’t tell the difference. The numbers they have to deal with I’m sure are overwhelming to say the least. I’m not defending the system just wondering what the solutions could be? Blogger has been taking some pretty big hits over the splogs and spam…Any ideas from here how they could offer an open service but beat the splog onslaught?

If you are identified like this what other problems has this caused you?

I am enjoying your blog by the way keep up the nice work…

    3. I agree with your sentiments BlogCruiser. And thanks for the compliment.

Since I last posted about being wrongfully identified as a splog, Blogger has now implemented an appeal system to remove it.

So now when I make a post a notification window pops-up with a link to web form requesting its removal (i.e. the word verification for posting).

At least that’s a start in the right direction, but after several days of waiting… I’m still waiting for the powers that be to fix it.

    4. It was very bad, and there are many like you which are wrongfully identified as splog.

what happened to your appeal???? Are they removed it???

      [ Reply..]

@Sally Lee, yes they finally lifted the ban but I’ve long since left Blogger for Wordpress.
