Best of the Blogs Awards 2006: Yawn!

By Blog Bloke November 14th, 2006 | 8 Comments Buzz thisBuzz it Share this on Facebook

The Deutsche Welle 2006 has given the top award for Best Weblog to the Sunlight Foundation.

I don’t know about you but I’ve always viewed these blog “awards” with a cynical eye. I know, many will probably say it’s because I’ve never been a winner. ;-)

But seriously, I don’t believe they add any value to the blogosphere except to those individuals whose egos that have been temporarily titillated.

Admittedly, there is another added benefit — it makes their next post real easy:

Guess who was nominated for…? Yeah — it was me.

YIPPEE! THEY LOVE ME! THEY REALLY (REALLY) LOVE ME!

Uh-huh. Soooooo, the fact that the best blogs don’t even get nominated let alone win is a real turn off for the Bloke. There’s just way too much politics and behind the scenes finagling for my liking. I don’t play the game.

I mean, don’t you get tired of stuff like this:

“The nominations came through and I’ve been nominated for a… award… so help me nab the prize! Vote early, vote often!”

(That is a real quote folks). Talk about stuffing the ballot box.

So what do you think? Am I being cynical? (Or am I just getting old). I can take it.

    1. Yeah, you’re a cynical old fart but that’s what I love about you Bloke. You speak your mind and I can get a real perspective from reading you instead of the politically correct clones out there.

It’s great to see that you are on top of your game again. You are better than ever and I’m really enjoying it !!!

    4. I don´t give a frak about internet prizes, and when the whole universe of votes is below 4 or 5 thousand, I don´t think it represents anything.

Any self-respecting blog can start a begging campaign and fill a few thousand votes A DAY.

    5. Cardoso, I think that sums up the post very well indeed.
