The New Blogger: I’m So Excited (and I just can’t help it :)
Admittedly I’m starting to get a little excited about the move to New Blogger. Now that the worst is over I can see a light at the end of the tunnel and I think I’m going to like it enough that I will no longer suffer from WordPress envy (but please don’t tell my wife).
Blogger seems to have put some serious thought behind this. I especially like the fact that I no longer have to rely on a host of scripts and hacks so the blog feels really solid and complete instead of a patchwork of hacks and addons.
Once you get the hang of working with the new code you also begin to see there is a lot of flexibility that has been built in to it, so you can customize your template to your heart’s content. Now that more bloggers are creating widgets for it (Blogger’s idea of plugins) I can foresee it becoming a major player, especially now that Blogger also comes with Custom Domains for free.
There are so many little things I’m noticing that I never anticipated that make the deal even sweeter. Things like getting a custom post page title working with just a simple piece of code:
In the old days we had to write several lines of hacked code to get a similar affect. I also like the fact that my favicon now works with my custom domain (without any further tweaking either).
That was a bonus!
It’s unexpected things like this that make the move over to the New Blogger all the better. But I have just one more thing on my wish list if I may — please offer support for PHP… pretty please.

What is going on with your photo? It’s only of your forehead. Teri
Yeah, but it’s a nice forehead don’t you think? All kidding aside, the photo looks fine from here. Are you serious or just pulling my leg?
It looks like the issue might be with IE7. If anyone else also notices this problem please let me know which browser you are using.
BTW, thanks for the heads-up Teri. You’re the best.
It seems that this is a well known bugaboo for IE7 (Microsoft of course, who else). What I think I’m going to do is completely remove the Profile Widget and build my own profile from scratch, That should solve it.
A word of advice for everyone. Lose IE7 and stick with IE6.
