Google Adds Blogs to Universal Search

Google Adds Blogs to Universal Search

In case you haven’t noticed,  has added blogs to its universal Search Engine. You will find it listed under the “more” link at the top menu.

is still running Google Blogsearch as a separate search engine, and how this will play over the long run is anybody’s guess at this time. Will Blogsearch be eventually phased out? Hard to say but more exposure for our blogs can only mean good news.

A lot of internet users are still unfamiliar with blogs, and so having a link on universal search should mean more hits for all of us. But personally I would like to see the link listed clearly on the top menu, rather than as a submenu item under “more”.

I have done a general search on Google in the past and ended up in blogs. Unfortunately, the result was usually not what I was looking for and the information on the blog was not useful for what I needed.

A lot of what I tend to search for is found in blogs, so it’s useful for me to search using both the main engine and the blog search engine too.

Lee, you were probably the victim of what’s known as link-baiting. Link-baiting can be a good thing so long as the content lives up to the hype of the title. But all too often the content does not live up to expectations. Which is really dumb, because the reader will not return again, and so the exploit is counter-productive over the long term.

Amanda, the blog search results on the main universal Google page is the same as the blog search results page. So you can just use the main search engine now. Less clicks = less time. Two for the price of one :)

I also search alot in the blog catagory.

This is good news - I get more hits from Google Blog Search probably because it indexes a lot faster !

Blog Search is indexed fast because it gets scraped from our newsfeeds. Another nice feature about blog search is we can create a custom RSS feed from our keywords.

Now that they are paying attention to the ‘freshness’ of contents, this is a great move in favor of blogs and bloggers.

Bloke, you are correct. The majority of the time when a search leads me to what turns out to be a blog, the content really has nothing to do with what I’m searching for. And often it’s a hodgepodge of links to other irrelevant sites.
