10 Steps to Blogging Success

Blogging to Riches:

Another sensationalistic headline a.k.a. copyblogger style to suck you in. Normally I would have just ignored a video like this had they not mentioned two things:

1. Writing Great Content - Content is King!

Absolutely true and not enough time is spent on this topic. But what they conveniently forget to say is we should be writing “Original” content. This has been perhaps my biggest beef with the Pro Blogger Splogger crowd and I really wish they would take the hint.

2. Multiple Sources of Income:

This is something that I heard 30 years ago and it’s still true today as it was then. It also goes for anything related to finances and wealth creation.

A more simple way of putting it would be – do not put all of your eggs into one basket.

Something also that the pro sploggers won’t tell you … they are making most of their money through other means besides just blogging.

As for the rest of the video, well all I can say is been there and done that. Nice summary though.

By the way, within minutes of posting I’ve already caught several splog trackbacks scraping this content. Thanks for proving my point.

  1. I think people do have trouble understanding “Original content”.
For example if there exist several articles on how to go about installing a Widget, and then I go about writing another article on the same subject but not adding much to the existing articles out there - does that mean that my article is not very original ?

  2. Nothing bugs me more than the splogs that are scraping my content for their own sites. So far, they are just putting up snippets of my posts, usually with a link back to my site. I dread the occasion when I find someone taking my full post and putting it up on their site as if it’s their own. I know that is happening to other blogs that I visit. The frustration is that it takes time to fight this garbage, and since I don’t have a staff of lawyers and this is not my full time job it is just a hassle I don’t want to deal with.

  3. Thanks Jaffer. I can’t answer that in a simple comment so I’m preparing a post for tomorrow. Stay tuned.

  4. How funny that the splogs picked up a post denouncing splogs. Proof positive that these things offer no value.
